Tripunithura gears up for Athachamayam

People from all walks of life poured into the streets of Tripunithura on Friday to take part in the famed ‘Athachamayam’ procession, that marks the beginning of the 10-day-long Onam festival celebrations in the state.


The festive got off to a colourful start with Power and Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the Atham festivities at around 10.30 am today. The Athachamayam procession, which is celebrated to commemorate the victory of the king of erstwhile Kochi, is also a confluence of different folk art forms of the state.
